Lira—15, September 2020: The National Unity Platform (NUP) under the stewardship of Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu popularly known by his stage name as Bobi Wine is intensifying its strong mobilisation across Lango sub-region ahead of the 2021 general elections.
NUP metamorphosed from the People Power movement and Mr. Kyagulanyi is assertive in his bid to dislodge president Museveni from power. Mr Museveni, 76, has ruled Uganda since 1986.
This digital newspaper now has full details of how this newest political party, NUP, is traversing Lango sub-region to set its structures and also to mobilize masses ahead of polls.
“We have been to Amolatar, Dokolo, Kwania, Alebtong and all the other districts of Lango and we are meeting key stakeholders and opinion leaders. We have marketed our ideas and we are making serious progress,” a mobilizer of NUP intimated to TND News but preferred anonymity.
He claims that he had been harassed by security agents.
On August 23, 2020, NUP coordination office was set up in Kangai, Dokolo district. This will coordinate NUP activities not only in Dokolo but the entire Kaberamaido and some parts of Teso sub-region, according to a source.
A similar office has also been set up in Odokomit in Lira City West Division to propel the party agenda.
Mike Adonyo, the coordinator of NUP for Lango has been openly beseeching population especially young people to visit their offices and pick up membership cards.
It should be noted that Lira, just like other districts in Lango and Uganda, has a majority of the population comprised of young people who are resonate with the agitations of NUP leader Bobi Wine.
TND News understands that over 1,200 young people have now registered with the party and have vowed to vote for Bobi Wine, who they see as a ray of hope.
“Everything in this country is not working out. Look at our decaying health care system, our crippling economy, we are tired of the NRM lies and that of president Museveni and this explains why we are supporting Bobi Wine,” Tina Apio, a young voter in Lira City tells this publication.
In marketing, brand visibility is key and NUP is leaving no stone unturned. The opposition political party through its mobilizers have distributed their red berets and t-shirts to all the villages where they set foot, and the community have been excited to wear their attire.
Bobi Wine gained his fame, one because of music, but also his prominence came through the positive media portrayal and he is not taking any chance either.
Our impeccable source has intimated that having faced blockage for live take shows on several radio stations, the NUP leader is now taking refuge in newsrooms and is also contemplating on social media influencers and bloggers across the country.

One of the meetings reportedly occurred between the night of 29th or 30th August in Kwania district.
In the same vein, Mr Kyagulanyi is said to be working on technical logistics like laptops and digital cameras among other digital equipment to aid his media team effectively deliver.
Now, in a serious political move to uproot NRM in Lango, NUP leadership in Lango have announced they will not field any candidate in constituencies with strong opposition candidates.
They have cited Dokolo district which has Cecilia Atim Ogwal and Jonathan Odur in Erute South constituency.
