Kampala—23 May 2020: Muslims across the globe will celebrate Eid El Fitr on Sunday 24, May 2020 after a month of fasting and prayers to Allah.
This celebration, unlike before, will see all Muslims celebrating from their homes following government’s shutting of all houses of worship and public gatherings. This has been done to stop coronavirus spread and mass infections among people.
Ahead of the celebration on Sunday, Uganda People’s Congress [UPC] party President also the Lira Municipality MP, Jimmy James Michael Akena Obote conveyed party’s official message to Muslim brothers and sisters in Uganda.
Below—Mr Akena wrote – verbatim:
EID AL-FITR MUBARAK
Asalam Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh. On behalf of Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and my own behalf, I congratulate you, our Muslim brothers and sisters who have completed to fast the holy month of Ramadan. This is very much important for the Islamic faith and spiritual renewal!
The fasting period has been quite challenging both in Uganda and rest of the world due to the outbreak of COVID19 pandemic and its restrictions. We thank and praise Allah for having enabled our Muslim brothers and sisters to complete the holy month of Ramadan in this most trying period of COVID19!
The Koran says, “O you who have believed, decreed upon you is fasting as it was decreed upon those before you that you may become righteous”, Surat Baqarah 2:183. There have been therefore crucial spiritual lessons achieved throughout this holy month of Ramadan as you have humbled yourselves before Allah, which has not only renewed our faith, but has also left “a spiritual legacy” to be reflected upon while carrying out your day to day activities.
After the fasting period, our brothers and sisters in Islamic faith are expected to forgive as well as extend a hand of friendship to humanity. May Allah accept your fasting and Zakat, approve your kind deeds, forgive your sins, and ease the suffering of all individuals around the globe!
As you celebrate this unique Eid al-fitr at home, please ensure and continue to observe the basic health guidelines and avoid unnecessary movements that may trigger the spread of COVID-19.
I officially wish you a joyful and peaceful Eid al-fitr!
