PV Sindhu and Satwik-Chirag Headline India’s Challenge at 2026 Thailand Open

Posted on: 05/13/2026

The 2026 Thailand Open Super 500, part of the BWF World Tour, kicks off on Tuesday at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok. This annual badminton event, first held in 1984, has been a Super 500 tournament on the HSBC BWF World Tour since 2018, offering valuable world ranking points and prize money as a key stop before major international competitions.

The tournament uses a standard single-elimination knockout format, with a qualifying draw and a main draw. The main draw features top-ranked players who qualify directly via world rankings, while the qualifying rounds give lower-ranked players a chance to enter the main event. Qualifying and the Round of 32 of the main draw begin on May 12.

PV Sindhu, World badminton championship

India fields a strong 35-member contingent across all five categories – men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles. Leading shuttlers such as Ayush Shetty, Lakshya Sen, PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth, HS Prannoy, and the men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty are expected to compete.

India looks to build on recent successes, including Ayush Shetty’s run to the final of the 2026 Badminton Asia Championships and Devika Sihag’s maiden BWF World Tour title at the Thailand Masters Super 300 earlier this season.
