Lira – 12, July 2020: Lira Catholic Diocese has set 6th of August 2020 as a date in which three deacons will be ordained into the priesthood order. One seminarian will also be ordained as a deacon, TND News has learnt.

All the ordinations, according to the Episcopate, will take place at the Uganda Martyrs Lira Cathedral. The holy event will be presided over by the Bishop Ordinary of Lira Diocese Rt Rev Santus Lino Wanok.

Traditionally, the deacons and seminarians for the last 10 years were ordained into new orders at their ancestral parishes.

In the ordination band (OB) that was released Sunday morning to be widely publicized to the Catholic community of Lira Diocese by the Bishop, the deacons to be ordained into the order of priesthood include; Deacon Stephen Odwongo who hails from Lira cathedral parish but currently on pastoral experience at Aduku catholic parish, Deacon Daniel Olila of Aloi parish but currently working in Lira Cathedral and Deacon George Olwande Ochieng.

Seminarian Aaron Okello will be ordained into the deaconate order.

The canon law (CL) which the mother Church uses, prescribes that the names of the candidates to be ordained should be publicized essentially to give information to the Christians about them.

Speaking after reading the bands, Rev Father Patrick Odur, Curate of Lira Cathedral parish asked the parishioners to pray for the deacons and a seminarian as they prepare for the ordinations.

According to the information available on the Lira Catholic Diocese website, the Diocese currently has a total of seventy-nine priests of which 63 are diocesans, 12 are comboni missionaries and 3 apostles of Jesus.
