Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green has weighed in on the most talked-about controversy in the NBA: San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama wasn’t suspended despite elbowing Minnesota Timberwolves center Naz Reid during the second-round playoff series.

“If the roles were reversed and Naz Reid elbowed Wembanyama, I think the result would be completely different. There would definitely be a fine — and definitely a suspension,” Green told HoopsHype. “Not even a fine? That’s crazy. Truly crazy. I’m not advocating for fines or suspensions, but to not even have a fine, let alone a suspension — I find that absolutely mind-boggling.”
Many observers suspect that Wembanyama’s status as the league’s future face played a role in the NBA’s decision not to suspend him for Tuesday’s crucial Game 5, with the series tied 2-2. While the rookie was rightfully ejected for the flagrant foul, similar incidents historically result in multiple-game bans. Green, who has faced playoff suspensions himself — including a 2023 altercation with Kings center Domantas Sabonis — may view the lack of punishment as inconsistent.
The Timberwolves and Spurs face off in Game 5 on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET.
