Al-Nassr and Cristiano Ronaldo Left Frustrated After Last-Gasp Equalizer Delays Saudi Title

Cristiano Ronaldo’s wait for his first Saudi Pro League title continues after Al-Nassr were held to a dramatic 1-1 draw by arch-rivals Al-Hilal. With just seconds left in stoppage time, a costly error from Al-Nassr goalkeeper Bento handed the visitors a stunning equalizer, crushing the home side’s hopes of celebrating a long-awaited championship.

The stadium, packed with yellow-clad fans, was on the verge of erupting in celebration of Al-Nassr’s first league title since 2019. But in the ninth minute of added time (90+9), Bento misjudged a long throw-in from Al-Hilal. Under pressure from defender Inigo Martínez, the Brazilian goalkeeper fumbled the ball, watching in horror as it trickled into his own net. The late goal silenced the crowd and left Al-Nassr’s title hopes hanging by a thread.

Earlier in the match, Mohamed Simakan had given Al-Nassr the lead just before halftime, nodding home from a corner kick in the 37th minute. It seemed enough to secure a vital victory in the 33rd round—the penultimate matchday of the Saudi Pro League season. However, the equalizer means Al-Nassr remain five points behind leaders Al-Hilal, who still have a game in hand.

For the 41-year-old Ronaldo, who joined Al-Nassr in early 2023 and has yet to win the Saudi league, the frustration continues. The title could still be decided as early as this Saturday if Al-Hilal lose their rescheduled match against Neom. Otherwise, the championship will be determined
