Dynamo Moscow striker Ivan Sergeev opened up about his match-winning goal against Krasnodar, which he scored on his birthday during the 29th round of the Russian Premier League on Monday. The game ended with a 2-1 victory for the Moscow side.
The match saw Krasnodar take the lead through Costa in the 32nd minute, but Dynamo equalized via Tyukavin in the 48th minute. Sergeev then netted the decisive goal in the 90+3rd minute, securing three points for his team.
“I didn’t see Zenit’s birthday wishes. Maybe it’s because I played there for three years? Many thanks to them!” Sergeev said, as quoted by Championat correspondent Nikolay Baranov.
“Perhaps today you made your former club champions,” a reporter remarked.
“I don’t know, there’s still one round left. We’ll see how things go. Dynamo is focused on its own objectives. Once I’m free, I’ll check who congratulated me. The most important thing is that my family and close ones wished me well. This goal is the best gift I could give myself. I’ve had a tough run without scoring, so it’s great to net a winner on my birthday. I congratulate Dynamo and all the fans on winning the last home match of the season,” Sergeev added.
Following this result, Dynamo Moscow sit eighth in the Russian Premier League table with 42 points, while Krasnodar occupy second place with 63 points. Zenit St. Petersburg lead the standings with 65 points.
