The Buffalo Bills will officially debut their new stadium by hosting the Detroit Lions on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 2 of the 2026 NFL season, as announced by the team and Prime Video on Monday.
The game is scheduled for Sept. 17 at Highmark Stadium, marking the first “Thursday Night Football” broadcast of the upcoming season. Play-by-play commentator Al Michaels and analyst Kirk Herbstreit are slated to call the contest for Prime Video.
Both the Bills and Lions enter the season with championship aspirations after finishing last year with top-five offenses. Buffalo fell to the Denver Broncos in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs, losing 33-30 in overtime. In response, the Bills revamped their roster on both sides of the ball during the offseason. They also promoted former offensive coordinator Joe Brady to head coach after parting ways with Sean McDermott and traded for veteran wide receiver DJ Moore to give former MVP quarterback Josh Allen another weapon.

The Lions, meanwhile, finished 9-8 last season and missed the playoffs. Detroit fortified its backfield by signing longtime Kansas City Chiefs starting running back Isiah Pacheco in free agency.
The Bills-Lions matchup was among several announced ahead of the NFL’s full schedule release on Thursday. The Dallas Cowboys also revealed two of their games: a Week 1 visit to the New York Giants on “Sunday Night Football” and a Thanksgiving Day clash with the Philadelphia Eagles.
