Liverpool FC has released the first images of a proposed memorial honoring Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who died in a car crash last July. The 28-year-old forward and his 25-year-old brother, a Penafiel player, lost their lives on 3 July in Zamora, Spain. The sculpture features a flowing heart design symbolizing Jota’s trademark goal celebration, along with the brothers’ shirt numbers (20 and 30) and lyrics from the song Liverpool fans sing in the 20th minute of every match. Titled ‘Forever 20’, the club describes it as a tribute to the “lives, their bond, and the love and respect felt by family, team-mates and supporters across the world.” The memorial will be placed at Anfield on 97 Avenue and incorporates recycled physical tributes left by fans outside the stadium since Jota’s passing. Liverpool has not announced an unveiling date yet. Jota joined the Reds from Wolves in 2020, scoring 65 goals in 182 appearances, and won the Premier League, FA Cup, and two League Cups during his time at the club.
