Ron Jans Matches Bert Jacobs’ Record for Most Eredivisie Wins

Posted on: 05/12/2026

Ron Jans has etched his name into Eredivisie history by equaling Bert Jacobs’ all-time record for the most wins by a coach in the Dutch top flight. The milestone was reached after FC Utrecht secured a dramatic 1-2 victory over Ajax, with the winning goal coming from Mike van der Hoorn in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

That triumph marked Jans’ 273rd win as an Eredivisie manager, pulling him level with the legendary Bert Jacobs. While Jacobs needed 741 matches to achieve this feat across eight different clubs between 1970 and 1997—including Roda JC, Vitesse, Sparta, and FC Utrecht—Jans reached the same mark in just 668 games, demonstrating a slightly better win rate. This win was Jans’ 46th in 98 matches with FC Utrecht, adding to his previous stints at FC Twente (47 wins), PEC Zwolle (48), sc Heerenveen (28), and FC Groningen (104).

With only one match left in the season—a final-day clash against Fortuna Sittard at the Galgenwaard—Jans has a chance to stand alone as the outright record holder. The veteran coach has already announced that this will be his last game as a head coach, making the occasion even more significant.

Behind Jans and Jacobs on the all-time list is former Netherlands boss Kees Rijvers (253 wins), followed by Han Berger and Louis van Gaal. Van Gaal, who coached Ajax and AZ to multiple titles, secured 216 victories in 334 games, winning roughly two-thirds of his Eredivisie matches. Two other coaches have also surpassed the 200-win mark: current Oranje boss Ronald Koeman (210 wins) and Dick Advocaat (202 wins), who may yet return to lead Curaçao.

Looking ahead, PSV coach Peter Bosz is poised to become the next member of the 200-win club. With 195 Eredivisie victories to his name, Bosz needs just five more to reach the milestone and become the eighth coach in history to achieve this. Given his recent contract extension with PSV, Bosz has a strong opportunity to climb into the top five—or even the top three—in the coming seasons.
