Thomas Silva claimed victory in the second stage of the 2026 Giro d’Italia, a route that started in Burgas and finished in Veliko Tarnovo. The win propelled the Uruguayan rider to the top of the general classification, making him the second wearer of the coveted Maglia Rosa.
The XDS Astana Team rider sprinted to the line ahead of the day’s favorite, Jonas Vingegaard. The Danish rider arrived in the final stretch alongside Pellizzari and Van Eetvelt, but they were caught in the closing meters, allowing Silva to take the win.
With his stage victory, Thomas Silva now leads the overall standings, taking over from Paul Magnier. Florian Stork (+0:04) and Egan Bernal (+0:04) complete the provisional podium.
Regarding the Spanish riders, Enric Mas is the best-placed in the classification. The Movistar rider moved up to 15th place, just 0:10 behind the leader.
