Como’s Sporting Director on Nico Paz: “We Will Talk to Real Madrid Soon

Como 1907 has emerged as the standout team in Italian football this season. With only three league matches remaining, the club still has a realistic chance not only of qualifying for European competition next year but also of securing a spot in the Champions League.

Two names stand out for their leadership: Cesc Fàbregas, the tactical mastermind on the bench, and Nico Paz, the driving force on the pitch.

However, the transfer window is approaching, and with it comes the planning for next season’s squad. While the team’s final league position will influence roster decisions, a key player in Como’s sporting project could leave on June 30 this year.

According to comments from Como’s sporting director Carlalberto Ludi, as reported by Corriere dello Sport, the club has done its homework, even though there has been occasional criticism regarding the lack of Italian players in the squad—a roster heavily shaped by Fàbregas.

“He is our guide. His ambitions are fully aligned with ours. Despite having won everything, he has a strong desire to learn and compete,” Ludi said of Fàbregas.

When asked again about the team’s key figure, Nico Paz, Ludi’s tone shifted compared to a month ago, when he was optimistic that the Argentine midfielder would stay. This time, he was more measured.

“We will meet with Real Madrid at the end of the season to understand their intentions. From our perspective, the future is with Nico. We not only hope for him to stay; we want him to stay,” Ludi acknowledged, though he added that not everything is within their control. “We will be prepared for any scenario.”

Nico Paz will return to Real Madrid next summer. The situation has become a matter of national interest in Italy, as he is seen as a key asset for Serie A’s quality. The Argentine’s departure from Como hinges on Real Madrid’s decision to exercise their buy-back clause, which amounts to €9 million this summer. Whether Paz stays with the Madrid first team—which has yet to confirm its coach for next season—or returns on loan remains uncertain, with Real Madrid holding the decisive word.
