Govt accredits 33 labs to carryout Covid-19 testing

Kampala – 1, October 2021: The ministry of health has Friday, 1 October announced the accreditation of 33 laboratories to carryout Covid-19 testing.

Ugandans currently pay between shs30,000 to shs70,000 or more to be tested for the coronavirus which has so far killed 3,159 people.

Since March 2020, 1,687,856 people have been tested; 123,742 have tested positive for the deadly virus.

However, good news is that 90,109 have since recovered from it, according to the ministry of health’s latest data.

With both testing and vaccination continuing, Makerere University Hospital Laboratory, Lancet Laboratories, MBN Laboratory, City Medicals and Case Hospital Kampala are some of the ‘newly’ accredited laboratories.

Meanwhile, the same ministry announces the confirmation of 170 new cases for 27 September, bringing the cumulative cases to 123,742.

Out of 166 contacts and alerts, Kampala recorded 37, Soroti 24, Oyam 8, Apac 3, Kutgum 9 and Napak 2.

Uganda has now administered 1,906,039 doses, with 276 active cases on admission at different health facilities.
