Those condemning communities they have locked down for using herbs as a cheap alternative for fighting Covid-19, what alternative do they have?

USA – 28, June 2021: Editor, Uganda is facing the second wave of Covid-19, everyone is panicking. This was uncalled for if only we had done a quick review of our healthcare system that everyone now ‘calls an ailing health system’.

Uganda is not going through epidemics for the first time with the so-called ailing health care system.

This is maybe one of the many times that I will write about primary healthcare in Uganda, as having been a strong area that Uganda had established as early as 1964 in a health of Kasangati that was a perfect example for the entire world.

Subsequent political instabilities have not helped the healthcare system as it kept on deteriorating despite having Mulago producing some of the best doctors known worldwide.

The late 1980s saw Uganda struck by a strange disease that came to be known as HIV/AIDS, a disease that spread like a bush fire and hit the entire nation.

Without a strong healthcare system, HIV/AIDS devastated communities in Uganda, but the resilience of Ugandans, a self-help group, was founded. That self-help group turned out into an organization called The Aids Support Organization (TASO).

TASO quickly spread across Uganda and almost complemented hospital care in Uganda as it developed centers in almost all major hospitals, or where there was no hospital TASO supplemented.

But you don’t omit TASO completely. TASO for sure is the image of primary healthcare in Uganda.

TASO has one of the best client education systems because HIV is about information behavior communication.

It is time to turn down the guns and appeal to science; Covid-19 is fought with the will of people and health workers.

Those soldiers and police officers running after people should instead carry sanitizers, masks and health information. We are in it with them.

Follow community actions and strengthen them. Those condemning communities they have locked down for using herbs as a cheap alternative for fighting Covid-19, what alternative do they have?

TASO uses community own resource persons. What are systems strengthening? I get so angry to see people surrender everything to fate.

A nation grieving, a nation gripped in fear cannot dispense TASO. This is an organization whose hallmark is counseling.
