The decision by CEC against their own (Kadaga) is bad for her family and supporters equally as Monday, 24, May 2021 is her birthday.

Kampala – 23, May 2021: Omoro County MP, Jacob Oulanyah aka Lanywen was endorsed by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s top organ, the Central  Executive Committee (CEC) as its choice for the position of speaker of parliament.

The endorsement took place on Sunday morning at a special sitting at State House in Entebbe. CEC chose Oulanyah who has been Kadaga’s deputy for 10 years.

The decision means Kadaga, who is also the Kamuli district woman MP, and served as speaker and deputy speaker for 10 years, each, will occupy no powerful office at parliament.

But she can be appointed a minister by president Museveni. The latter is expected to name his new cabinet in coming days.

Sources say she (Kadaga) has decided to contest for speakership as an independent candidate. NRM party is yet to communicate against her decision.

Besides CEC’s decision, Kadaga boasts of great support from NRM and some opposition lawmakers in the 11th parliament.

For Oulanyah, he has got support too. He will have to be approved by NRM parliamentary caucus, and must obtain two-third of the endorsement (votes) to be declared party flag bearer.

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party weeks ago endorsed her spokesperson, also the Kira municipality MP, Hon. Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda (SIN) as a flag bearer for speaker.

Mr Ssemujju awaits NRM’s Oulanyah and others for the final decision to be made by the MPs on Monday (tomorrow) at Kololo independence ground.

Soon after election of speaker and deputy speaker, first sitting of the 11th parliament will take place. The MPs took oath last week in an exercise which ended for four days.

A total of 529 MPs including aspirants for speaker and deputy speaker will cast their votes.

The CEC decision against Kadaga is bad for her family and supporters equally as Monday 24, May 2021 is her birthday. It’s a bad birthday gift!
