Wakiso – 10, May 2021: Uganda Police (UP) and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) have been deployed at former presidential candidate Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi’s home in Magere, Wakiso district ahead of president (elect) Yoweri Museveni’s inauguration ceremony.
Gen. Museveni will be sworn in on Wednesday 12, May 2021 for 6th term.
Early in the day, FDC party, via Twitter said Dr Kizza Besigye’s home, their founding (former) party president was under security surveillance
“Our comrades were meant to appear for their bail hearing today at the General Court Martial. All of a sudden, they called off the court,” Bobi Wine said.
He added “…. my home is surrounded by the police and military! Soldiers are back to the streets. This is how the dictator plans to swear himself in.”
Unconfirmed report from Busoga subregion is that Bobi Wine and his team had booked a venue where he intends to swear in same day – on Wednesday.
The National Unity Platform (NUP) party leader has since January 2021 elections been saying the presidential election was rigged, refusing to concede defeats.
Whereas he later petitioned the results in the Supreme Court, Bobi Wine withdrew his petition, blaming some justices for working with Museveni and being his close ally.
He continues to say the results announced by the electoral commission were fake.
Bobi Wine has often called on Ugandans to use “non-violent legal means to remove Museveni” from power.
The army and police are yet to make official communications on why homes of key opposition leaders are under their control ahead of Wednesday event.
