NWSC on why Lira City is facing water crisis

On Saturday, a photo of how residents were stranded, some seen collecting water from the open (drainage) channel went viral on social media.

Lira – 6, March 2021: Lira City residents have for the last five days undergone “acute water crisis” with many telling TND News “we can’t have a bath, we are thirty”.

Some say they’re having one meal a day from at least normal two: lunch and supper.

The water crisis has affected two city divisions. National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Lira area, early this week issued a statement, alerting residents of the ongoing works to restore normal water flows.

On Saturday, a photo of how residents were stranded, some seen collecting water from the open (drainage) channel went viral on social media.

TND News Tweeted the photo to draw the attention of NWSC authorities, especially those at the headquarters in Kampala to understand the dire problem people of Lira City and surrounding areas are facing.

Soon, this is what the water body said:

“URGENT: Updates for Lira City
We have closed off water supply at Kacung treatment plant.

“This is to allow our engineers install new heavy duty pumps + standby generators at the facility.

“The intervention will boost water supply reliability in the new city.

NWSC Lira area also later issued another statement, saying their engineers were working to restore the problem.

“The management of National Water and Sewerage Corporation informs her esteemed customers of Lira and Amach areas of supply interruption today Saturday 06, March 2021 due to works on new pipes that couldn’t get done by yesterday as earlier planned. Our engineers are working tirelessly to ensure supply is restored.”
