Sam Atul elected Lira City mayor: Dila, Apili, Awany, Orik both IN

During campaigns, NRM’s Omodo was much ‘popular’ and ‘active’ among voters, he emerged third according to EC final results released on Thursday morning.

Lira – 21, January 2021: UPC has lost Lira City mayoral seat to NRM leaning candidate, Mr Sam Atul.

Mr Atul trounced UPC’s Mike Ogwang Olwa Veve (incumbent), Willy Omodo Omodo (NRM), Martin Ocen Odyek (IND), George Mawa (IND), among others in the January 20 elections.

During campaigns, Omodo was much ‘popular’ and ‘active’ but could only emerge third according to EC final results.

Mr Atul got 12515 of the total votes cast equating to 35.13%, Mr Ogwang Olwa got 12056 (33.85%), Mr Omodo Willy got 6534 (18.34%), Mr Ocen Martin Odyek got 729 (2.05%).

Others are Mr Lia Otim who obtained 1459 votes (4.10%), Mr Angula Denis got 404 votes (1.13%) and Mr George Mawa managed to get 1923 votes which is 5.40%.

For district chairpersons, UPC lost in Oyam and Lira. Mr Nelson Adea Akar lost to NRM candidate Dilla Oyuku Benson, while in Lira, Mr Patrick Oremo Alot lost to NRM’s RCM Okello Orik.

In Kole, NRM retained its seat by electing Mr Awany Andrew.

Mr Abola Francis is the new Otuke district LC5 chairman, while in Amolatar, Mr Ocen Geoffrey took it.

In Kwania, Mr Alex Ogwal Adyebo was elected and Mr James Otoo Apili is the new Dokolo district chairman.
