Kampala—22, December 2020: The Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party administration at Uganda House, 6th Floor said their leader, Mr. Jimmy James Michael Akena Obote will make his end-of-year address Wednesday.
The Wednesday 23, December media briefing will be Akena’s third in 2020, and the most recent after his second address following his re-election on August 1, 2020.
The Lira Municipality MP who is also seeking re-election to represent Lira City East Division in the 11th Parliament is expected to talk about a recent development in which his nemesis, Peter Walubiri Mukidi was elected by a faction opposed to his leadership as the new UPC party president.
Mr. Hamuza Ssewankambo, the electoral commission chairman appointed by Walubiri, released the election results via Zoom on December 17. He declared Mr.Peter Walubiri as a winner—with 48 percent.
Mr. Joseph Ochieno trailed Walubiri with 46 percent, while Dr. Dickson Opul and Dr. Dan Okello got paltry 6 and 2 percent, respectively.

Tomorrow (Wednesday), Mr. Akena is also expected to urge all UPC candidates who are vying for different political (elective) positions to repudiate Walubiri election as party president.
He will further urge them to concentrate on their campaigns ahead of the general elections next year.
Mr. Akena is also expected to urge his supporters to adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as Uganda battle with Covid-19 infections and deaths.
