The sub-county gets its revenue from the landing site and trading licenses of different businesses.
Akokoro—2 October 2, 2020: Moses Onapa Wawah, an aspirant for the Akokoro sub-county LC3 Chairperson, tells TND News he was duly nominated on Monday 21 September 2020 by the Electoral Commission.
“Duly nominated at 1:46pm,” he told the publication, further revealing his areas of focus once elected the sub-county chairperson in 2021 general elections.
On 13 August 2020, Onapa told this publication that he is an educationist with vast expertise in community mobilization and empowerment.
Asked about the quality of education in Akororo sub-county, a birthplace of former President, Dr Apollo Milton Obote, he said: “There is nothing to do with quality education. For the last 6 to 7 years, we have not been getting more than 9 first graders.”
On how he will ensure economic stability of the sub-county, and source of local revenue, he reveals that he will set up welding and metal fabrication workshops, carpentry and joinery workshops, among others to generate revenue.
Currently, he says the sub-county gets its revenue from the landing site and trading licenses of different businesses.
Asked about the possibility of newcomers like him winning incumbents’ offices, Wawah blamed it on Covid-19 that has limited movement and mass rallies.
“People may vote for incumbent because that’s the only people they know,” he expects.
Wawah’s 7 key areas of focus
- Games and sports/leisure
- Lands, housing and natural resources
- Culture and tourism
- Youth, women and the elderly
- Leadership (politics) and religion
- Trade and economic transformation/inclusive local economy
He’s contesting on an independent ticket after failing to carry UPC party flag.
Other aspirants in the race are Mr Onapa Ambrozoli of the ruling NRM party and Mr Odongo Felix of UPC.
