Agago—August 31, 2020: A 13-year-old boy, identified as Regan Komakech, has lost his 5 figures on his left hand.

The severe incident happened after a tear gas canister blasted.

TND News’ northern Uganda based Correspondent reports that Komakech reportedly picked the tear gas canister from their house in Lapyem parish in Adilang sub-county and played with it.

Adilang LC3 chairman, Mohamed Okwir said after a few minutes the tear gas canister “exploded and blew off the boy’s five fingers on his left hand”.

By press time, Komakech was being picked from his home to receive medical care at Adilang HCIII.

Okwir warned security personnel against keeping their work items at home, saying it poses a risk of injury to family members and neighbours.

The father to the 13-year-old is believed to be a member of the anti-stock theft unit (ASTU) in Agago district.

Aswa regional police spokesperson, Jimmy Patrick Okema said the information had not yet reached his office and therefore could not issue further comment.
