Lira: 10 ICU beds will support Covid-19 response – MoH officials

Lira—28, August 2020: The Ministry of Health team led by Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng on Friday commissioned 10 newly installed ICU beds in Lira City.

Eight ICU beds were commissioned at Lira Regional Referral Hospital and two at Lira University Teaching Hospital.

According to the Ministry, the ICU beds will support Covid-19 response and emergency medical services.

Minister Aceng, who has shown interest to represent the Women of Lira City in the next parliament, said: “As we conclude the Lango sub-region support supervision activities, today we commissioned 10 newly installed ICU beds….”

Dr Diana Atwine, Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, said by end of September 2020, “all our 13 Regional Referral Hospitals will be fully equipped with state of art ICU equipment. Good news is that all the equipment landed yesterday at Entebbe Airport from Israel and installation is ongoing”.

On Thursday, the two Ministry of Health principals officiated a Covid-19 sensitisation meeting for spiritual leaders (Born Again Faith) of Lango sub-region.

The meeting took place at All Nations Church, Lira City.

“Leaders are instrumental in mobilising communities to adhere to SOPs in the wake of disease outbreak,” official statement from the Ministry reads.

Uganda has recorded 2,756 cumulative Covid-19 cases and 28 deaths as of Thursday, 27 August 2020.

Since March this year, 367, 423 Ugandans have been tested for Covid-19 and to date, 1, 288 people have recovered from the global pandemic.
