Ex-minister Daniel Omara Atubo “joins Lira City Mayoral race”

Lira—26, August 2020: More than six people have shown interest to become the City Mayor of Lira City in the next general elections.

Those in the race are the acting City Mayor Hon. Mike Ogwang Olwa Veve (UPC), Willy Omodo Omodo (NRM), George Mawa (NRM), Morris Chris Ongom (NRM), Ocen Odyek (UPC) and Hon. Daniel Omara Atubo (independent ticket). For Atubo, his candidature will be announced soon.

Those contesting under NRM and UPC will first be subjected to internal party primary polls, where a winner from each will carry the party flags in the general polls.

Addressing the media on Wednesday in Lira City, former Lands, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Hon. Daniel Omara Atubo welcomed the brith of Lira City with “enormous happiness”.

Mr Atubo says he has had deep thoughts about electing a leader and developing Lira City and he would like to share it with the public.

“True leadership needs joint efforts. Voters should elect good leaders from lower offices to the top who are able to show positive results of their leadership,” reads Atubo’s statement partly reads.

According to the former minister, Lira City Mayor should be a “people’s Mayor for all political parties.”

“A transparent leader, matured with enough experience, highly learned who can bring results,” he described few qualities of a veritable City Mayor.

Mr Atubo says Lira City Mayor should promote good governance, endeavour to build a City of prosperity.

He also says a City Mayor should work closely with the President and government, including Members of Parliament and “all leaders”.
