Covid-19 – Uganda: 49 new cases, 1 new death confirmed

Kampala—August 15, 2020: Forty-nine (49) new Covid-19 cases have been confirmed, bringing the cumulative total confirmed cases to 1,434.

The new confirmed cases are part of 3,768 total samples tested on Friday, 14 August 2020.

Announcing the new cases, the Ministry of Health on Saturday afternoon also confirmed one Covid-19 death. Total Covid-19 deaths in Uganda has now reached 13.

The Ministry says the deceased is a 50-year-old Ugandan male, a resident of Kiryandongo district who presented with Covid-19 like signs and symptoms.

Of the 49 new cases, two are Ugandan truck drivers who arrived from Kenya via Malaba Point of Entry.

Six were contacts to previously confirmed cases: 1 from Bushenyi and 5 from Kampala Metropolitan Area.

Thirty-seven (37) cases are from: 17 from Kampala, 2 from Wakiso, 14 from Namisindwa, 1 from Kiryandongo, 2 from Mbarara and Lamwo districts.

Four returnees: 1 from USA, 3 from Saudi Arabia were part of the 49 new cases.

Ministry’s press statement also says 19 foreign truck drivers tested positive for Covid-19 at the border points of entry and their entry into the country was not permitted.

Ugandan recoveries to date stands at 1,142.

1,302 samples from points of entry were tested on Friday whilst 2,466 from alerts and contacts.
