Kampala—August 13, 2020: Uganda’s Health Minister, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng has told Ugandans that Kampala has become a high risk area for Covid-19.

The Minister reasons that unless Ugandans adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) issued by the Ministry he manages, it could get worse.

She said although the Ministry of Health and the country at large has put up a good fight against the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic; the efforts are likely to betray us if the public continues to violate the SOPs.

The minister said Kampala has joined the hot spot districts for the deadly virus, and soon it might get worse.

“I want to encourage Ugandans that the direction in which this pandemic will go in this country will be determined by the population,” she said.

“If we are responsible people, we will keep it under control, but if we become irresponsible and careless, then it may blow out of proportion and cause us to lose some good number of lives,” Aceng added.

“We’ve also had cases of people who had HIV succumbing to the virus, even healthy ones,” she said.

“I have requested them to cascade the message down to the last person beginning with themselves,” she said.

On Thursday, Uganda confirmed two more Covid-19 deaths, bringing total deaths to 11.
