Soroti—August 9, 2020: Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) party continues to tighten its belt ahead of 2021 general polls.

With earlier reports saying the party won’t be able to present a flag bearer for the presidential race, the Kampala City road based political party is calling on its members to vie for the ‘lower’ elective offices.

In Soroti district, the UPC party chairperson Mrs. Akello Florence Okae and wife to UPC National Chairman Mr. Lawrence Okae Engirot is contesting to become the LC5 Woman Councillor, representing Awaliwal sub-county to the district council.

She is not giving up. Why? TND News understands that Mrs Okae lost narrowly in 2016 elections when she vied for the same seat—coming second in that contest.

“This is her second attempt for the same position as she lost narrowly to her competitor and emerged second in the 2016 general elections,” Muzey Faizo, UPC’s media and communications coordinator, told this publication on Sunday.

“She has served in the party as the Soroti District Chairperson from 2011 to date,” he added.

Mrs Akello Florence Okae holds a Diploma in Public Administration.
