Bushenyi—6, August 2020: The minister in charge of General Duties in the Office of Prime Minister (OPM) Mary Karooro Okurut has asked the people of Bushenyi to play good politics as the country nears a decisive period of elections.

Karooro, who also doubles as the incumbent Member of Parliament for Bushenyi district, said that people should exercise their mandate while electing their leaders but in a more transparent manner.

She added that the people of Bushenyi should time and again mind about food security because food is very important in homes.

The minister said that instead of giving somebody fish; you teach him or her how to fish, therefore; she gave out 5,400 hoes to all households in Bitooma sub-county, Bushenyi district, a function which took place at Kakira and Nyanga parishes.

Karooro added that she has so far distributed hoes to most of the sub-counties in the district and areas which had remained were Kakanju, Bitooma, Kyamahunga and some parishes in Nyabubare sub-county.

She revealed that during President Idd Amin Dada’s turmoil days, Ugandans remained food secured because they had food which helped them to survive.

She also asked people of Bitooma to re-elect her in the forthcoming elections because she has done a lot in Churches, health centres, Mosques, schools, among other contributions.

She warned her supporters and those of other candidates to stop abusing and fighting each other because elections are for a short time. “You should participate in them as brothers and sisters,” she urged.

“You must stay united because after elections you will stay as brothers and sisters and above, Bushenyi is bigger than all of us,” adds Karooro.

On the other hand, she advised couples to stay peaceful and not to engage in domestic violence; she called for social distancing during this moment of Covid-19 pandemic, telling couples not to come nearer. “I have so far observed,” she said.

The race for Bushenyi district Women Member of Parliament is tougher.  Karooro is tussling it out, first with primary elections, a contest between Annet Katusiime Mugisha the wife to the NWSC boss, Silver Mugisha.
