Who’s Jokkene Timothy Okee, an aspirant for NRM vice chair – Northern?

Gulu—29, July 2020: The race for National Resistance Movement (NRM) party top positions via internal party elections is getting hotter, each passing day.

The party is set for elections, an exercise that will see, among others, NRM party members electing new office bearers for regional vice chairpersons for Northern, Eastern, Central and Western Uganda.

Specifically, northern Uganda region has attracted three big men; Hon Sam Engola, an incumbent, Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Jacob Oulanya and Jokkene Timothy Okee. The trio is battling for the party top seat.

One aspirant who has come as a shock is Jojjene Timothy Okee. TND News has delved into his profile, plans and political journey.

Timothy Jokkene Okee is an accomplished politician, consultant, researcher, entrepreneur and an environmentalist. He’s also an astute businessman who joined the race for Vice Chairperson Northern Region in the next NRM Central Executive Committee and National Delegates conference scheduled for 6th and 7th August 2020.

Jokkene, who ran as an NRM flag bearer for Gulu Municipality MP in 2016 polls, never gave up his political quest—this time electing a “different political path”

At the core of his politics is his interest to effectively represent the common man, defend and protect NRM party interest and values; improve the grass root mobilization of party members, popularize NRM manifesto, government poverty reduction strategy, wealth creation and amplify the chairman’s initiative for inclusive, responsive and transparent government and lobby for more development and a better Northern Uganda.

Jokkene started business in Gulu town in 1989. Today, he owns several fuel stations, schools and micro finance institutions across the country. His philanthropy includes social enterprise formation and support to young people, attracting investors, and community health infrastructure facilities, education facilities that focused on youth’s sports, leadership and discipleship through a Christian aspect, among others.

Mr Okee who picked and submitted his nomination forms says he’s ready to tussle it out with other contenders for the same position. Jokkene’s sober and non-confrontational approach to politics, he says resonates well with many who believe he is the best fit for the position.

He intends to transform not merely the way NRM is perceived in a hostile environment, but also the underlying assumptions that NRM is a party for those at the fringe of society and mere self seekers. Jokkene purposefully set out to extend NRM common-bond to the masses and make it a truly mass party in Northern Uganda.

“I have been in business, politics for a long time, and my skills and abilities have been tested in politics, mobilization, investments and challenges that I have overcome; going to represent the people of Northern Region as National Vice Chairperson will give me the ability to lobby, influence decisions about economic, social, cultural, political development of Northern Uganda,” he added.

He is pledgeding to mobilize and also ensure that the voice of the people, members of the NRM party and the general community is attended to as well as to strengthen and promote NRM Core Values.

“I have decided not to contest for any other political position so that I can be able to effectively represent NRM party as the Vice Chairperson Northern Region and extend its common-bond and translate it to electoral victory for party flag bearers.”
