Uganda confirms 14 new virus cases on Sunday

National—6, July 2020: Results of novel coronavirus test done on 5, July 2020 confirms fourteen news cases out of 3,103 samples tested on Sunday.

Of the fourteen new cases, the Ministry of Health says eleven were truck drivers and three were contacts and alerts from Luwero, Kyotera and Amuru districts.

“Regarding the Uganda truck drivers, nine arrived from Kenya via Malaba, and one arrived from South Sudan via Elegu and one arrived from Tanzania via Mutukula,” Dr Henry G. Mwebesa, director General Health Services said in a press release.

He also says forty-three foreign truck drivers; thirty-nine Kenyans and four Tanzanians tested positive for Covid-19 at the border points of entry and were denied entry into Uganda.

There are 206 active cases on admission: 177 are Ugandans, 24 foreigners and five are refugees, he added.

“It’s important to note that foreigners and refugees are admitted in our health facilities but are not captured in the cumulative confirmed Covid-19 cases,” Dr Mwebesa further announces.

To date, he says Uganda has registered a total of 892 Covid-19 recoveries which include both Ugandans and non-Ugandans and no Covid-19 related death.

Since March this year, the cumulative total samples tested are now 210,446.
