Corona: Ministry of Health confirms 23 new cases for Saturday

Kampala—23 May 2020: The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Uganda on Saturday night confirmed 23 new COVID-19 cases out of 1,187 total samples tested.

The total confirmed cases now stand at 198.

“Nineteen [19] new cases are truck drivers who arrived via Elegu and Busia while four [4] cases are contacts to previously confirmed truck drivers,” the Ministry reveals.

It adds that all contacts were under quarantine at the time of test.

To date, 38 positive foreign truck drivers are handed over to their country of origin.

On Saturday, 851 samples were tested from Points of Entry, 336 samples were from community and contacts.

The government, through the Ministry of Health, has introduced a new campaign aimed at reducing community virus spread and infections.

The #TONSEMBERERA loosely translated as ‘Keep Your Distance” demands everyone to keep a four meter distance while in public.
