- When one selects euthanasia (assisted suicide), he or she is intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering.
- Euthanasia, as defined, is a “very gentle and quiet death, which happens without painful convulsions.”
- And in Ugandan Law, suicide or euthanasia is an offence. If the perpetrator attempts to kill him or herself but fails, they are punished.
A trader in Alebtong district has committed suicide after three failed attempts.
Speaking to TND News on Sunday afternoon, Barbara Akech who is the secretary for community-based services in Alebtong district, identified the deceased as Juk Samuel.
“He’s called Juk Samuel of Olaoicaik village in Awaoping parish, Abako sub-county. He died last night,” she said, in an interview.

“He was a sole trader who had mental issues and had attempted to commit suicide three times previously,” Akech added.
According to her, “as we fight COVID 19, we should not forget to sensitise our people about committing suicide. It’s rampant in our district.”
Early this week, another man also committed suicide “because he was confined home, with nothing to offer to his family”.
Alebtong RDC, Ms Josephine Omara Olili, told TND News on Monday afternoon she had not gotten any information about Juk’s death.
