Lira – It was long overdue! President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday night reshuffled his Cabinet and State Ministers to complete the remaining few years, a head of 2021 general polls.
In the ‘new’ and much anticipated appointment, new faces have been named; some old brooms dropped and redeployed to occupy new offices.
One of the new faces, whose appointment, according to many – and himself has come with great gesture, is Denis Hamson Obua ‘Ajuri’ – the Member of Parliament Ajuri Constituency in Alebtong district.
In his first statement, less than 10 hours after President made changes, Mr. Obua spoke to TND News’ Milton Emmy Akwam.
Mr Akwam asked him if he was surprised of the appointment and why President Museveni vested his confidence in him – and generally what he thinks about his new office, and thus he said.
“I think one, leadership is a calling to serve and I strongly believe I have been called to serve my country. I have been serving at the level of a Member of Parliament, now the level of a Minister of State in charge sports.”
“On the second question, why? I think that’s a vote of confidence. One, I’m a sports person myself, a sports lover, a sports promoter. As I speak, I’m the team captain of Parliament of Uganda. I served as chair steering committee of Uganda Cranes for Africa Cup of Nation,” newly appointed State Sports Minister added.
According to Mr. Obua, he prayed and thanked God when he received the news.
Asked what he would do to see that government hurries with the construction of Akii Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira Municipality, State Sports Minister designate, says: “On the issue of Akii Bua, we will cross the bridge when we reach there.”
He added: “We first see what foundation has been laid. It’s very early to speak much about it.”
