Kitoba – The former deputy head of government business [DHoGB] is living in distress, poverty and without wealthy friends to help him – TND News has details.
Rt. Honourable Henry Muganwa Kajura – who has been very popular not only in Bunyoro sub-region as a leader but in the whole world as a legislator and first deputy prime minister, is now in distress.
According to a high-profile source in the sub-region who spoke to TND News, the ex-premier has lost his ancestral home in Kitoba to a money lender who lent him unspecified amount of money for his campaigns in 2016
“The money lender in the names of one Mr Ssali has already transferred the land title of the former big man in government into his names after numerous court cases in the commercial court,” a source says.
He added: “This has left Mzee Kajura and his supporters in the area saying that the NRM party has not helped him [them] and yet he borrowed money to facilitate the NRM campaigns in the district.”
This contemporary online newspaper has also been told that Mzee Kajura is contemplating going to court to be declared bankrupt in order to save “his only property where all his family members were buried”.
A section of NRM diehards are also annoyed with the party for failing to help the man who sacrificed a lot for the ruling party and yet the President is busy giving out cars to the likes of Bebe Cool and Kusasira.
“The President worked with Mr Kajura for long but he can’t rescue the man who diligently and was very loyal to the party and him,” another NRM cadre in the region added.
Quite a big number of these cadres have threatened to defect to the People Power movement if Kajura loses his property “anyhow”.
Mr Kajura’s past and current trade
He was appointed Third Deputy Prime Minister in 2002, serving in that capacity until 2005 when he was appointed Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Public Service. In the cabinet reshuffle of May 2009, and that of 27 May 2011, he retained both his cabinet positions, being promoted to First Deputy Prime Minister in 2013. Kajura was a member of Uganda’s Cabinet, continuously from 1989 until 2016.
Mr Kajura served as Member of Parliament for Bugahya County under National Resistance Movement (NRM) from 1989 until 2006 (losing in the NRM primary to William Rwembera) and for Hoima Municipality from 2011 to 2016, when he lost in the NRM primary to Lawrence Bategeka.
In the eighth Parliament (2011–16) he served an ex-officio Member of Parliament, on account of his cabinet appointment. In February 2017 Kajura was appointed as the Bunyoro Omukama’s advisor on palace affairs by Solomon Gafabusa Iguru.
