Soldier fined sh.30k for maize theft, again in custody after attempting to kill grandmother

KOLE – In less than two hours after appearing before the Aboke Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Kole district on Thursday, Franko Oder, a retired UPDF soldier is in another serious crime.

Oder, who retired at a rank of Private appeared before Aboke Court for an assault case he committed in January 2019.

Soon after, on Thursday he was by locals and handed over to Kole Central Police Station after attempting to kill his grandmother, Santana Oder using a panga.

His uncle Label Opio confirmed the arrested, adding: “Me, Santa (his grandmother) and others are now living in fears.”

According to suspect’s uncle, the elderly woman defended herself using her walking stick.

On Thursday, same day he appeared before Grade One Magistrate’s Court, Opio was fined by a village Court after pleading guilty to stealing two fresh maize.

A source who spoke to TND News on condition of anonymity says Oder is a drug addict.

“He was among soldiers who went to Somalia under AMISOM, made money but was layoff because of drug abuse,” a source said.
