UPDF soldier pleads guilty to stealing fresh maize

KOLE – The Local Council One Court of Anywal village, Ayer sub-county in Kole district has put a charge on a man who pleaded guilty to stealing fresh maize.

Franko Oder, who retired from Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) was fined shillings 30,000 by a village Court for stealing two fresh maize.


According to local council one of the above area, Oder was arrested on Wednesday evening in the garden of village mate, Tonny Okullo.

Lawrence Ogwang, the LC1 chairperson Anywal village says Oder pleaded guilty and asked for pardon.

According to a report by Gulu a based radio, 102 Mega FM, the ex-soldier told local Court that it was a “stomach demanding him” and he was “very hungry”, a reason he went to steal.

Each maize was estimated at shillings 300 only, local radio further reported.

Previous cases

Oder was also to appear before Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Aboke for allegedly beating up a native in January, 2019.

As reported by Mega FM, he later sold his metallic door at shillings 100,000 to give as allowances to people who were hearing his case.

On 11, July, 2019, the same Oder was found guilty after stealing six fresh maize from the garden of the village local council one chairperson, Lawrence Ogwang.


He was made to tilt the entire garden as a punishment.
