Red Pepper sued

Briefly– Uganda’s popular tabloid, Red Pepper (The Pepper Publications Limited) has been dragged to High Court of Kampala – Civil Division.

It’s under the Civil Suit No. 347 of 2019.

The plaintiff, Diini Emmanuel Kisembo, a medical doctor by profession, through his legal firm, M/SM. KM Advocates & Associates, in his plaint No. 3(i) to (vi) claims against the defendant for;

i) A declaration that the publications, entitled “Security Hunts Top Extortion Gang; ON THE RUN” and “Gang Names Secrets To Harm Top Gov’t Bosses” libelous/defamatory of him.

The plaintiff claims this article, with his photo is defamatory.

(ii A permanent in junction restricting the defendant from further publishing such false and malicious articles against the plaintiff.

(iii General and exemplary damages for libel

(vi Interest of 60% per annum on (ii) from the date of filing this suit until payment in full.

By press time, the defendant’s legal team were yet to respond to us for comment, and if indeed, they received the suit.
