Uganda Crane’s exciting 2:0 win against Democratic Republic of Congo at the ongoing African Cup of Nations 2019 (AFCON2019) in Egypt has brought excitements among Ugandans.
This was after strikes from Patrick Kaddu and Emmanuel Okwi sealed Crane’s first match victory against DRC, allowing them stay atop of group A’ with 3 points and (+2 goal difference).
Hosts Egypt sits second on 3 points and (+1 goal difference).
And while it’s not yet over, many Ugandans believe the Cranes will easily progress to the next rounds.
However, on a political sight and analysis, Uganda’s oldest political party, UPC thinks the Cranes must not take it easy.
The Congress also urged Ugandans now excited, to handle and consolidate their excitements as well as knowing the demands of group stages in order to win all the games at this stage.
“UPC calls upon all Ugandans to be solidly behind the team as it takes on Zimbabwe Warriors today, Wednesday 26, 06, 2019. It’s a game whose stakes are very high, Zimbabwe will play their lungs out so as to avoid a second defeat in the group stages and the Cranes, if they remain focused and fight it off for a second successive victory in the group stages, it means outright qualification to the round of 16,” Mike Orach Osinde, party spokesperson under Jimmy Akena leadership said, while addressing media on Wednesday at Uganda House in Kampala.
Mr. Osinde adds: “This is a delicate stage of the tournament that ought to be handled with a lot of caution, technical and tactical alertness. We only hope and pray that Uganda Cranes is gradually building that capacity and the Mighty Party UPC whises it the best of lucks.”
Today, at Cairo International Stadium at 8:00pm, Uganda Cranes will take on Zimbabwe Warriors, with Egypt taking on DRC Congo at 11:00pm.
Addressing press today in Cairo, head coach Sebastian Desbre and captain who also doubles as goalkeeper, Denis Onyango said they are focused on today’s game, not when they take on Egypt.
