Lira: Fuel tanker catches fire, no death

More than 30 motorbikes (boda bodas) and 20 bicycles have been burnt after a fuel tanker burst into flames in Lira town.

On Tuesday, the said vehicle failed to beat the corner (round about) on main street; in front of Lira Central Police station and fell down.

It was full of fuel – some good quantity was withdrawn, sources say.

On Wednesday, the fuel tanker caught fire after attempts to remove its wreckage, burning to ashes boda bodas machines.

Suspects and police officers, visitors at Lira CPS feared for their lives after the lorry burst into flames.

By press time, police at North Kyoga region was yet to issue a statement.

“Fire fighters put off the fire at around 16:28hrs, after two hours of battle,” 97.7 Unity Fm reporter in Lira town, Eleng Ambrose says.
