Kagadi gets shs.22.8 billion for clean water, sanitation

Dr. Kisembo Diini [R] and Denish Kyalingo one of the officials from the Egyptian Company met at Serena International Conference Centre in Kampala this year to discuss water supply to Kagadi.

In a bid to extend clean water supply, promotion of sanitation in Kagadi district, Ministry of Water and Environment through Water and Sanitation Development Facility Central [WSDF-C] has released funds for the development.

The project, to cost Uganda shilling 22.8 billion is to be undertaken by Egypt engineering company – Samcrete Egypt Engineers and Contractors.

It’s expected to boost clean water supply and improved sanitation in Kagadi town council, Muhorro town council, Kyenzige town board and Rutete town board, both in Buyaga East and West respectively.

According to Dr. Diini Emmanuel Kisembo – the Founder and Executive Director Health Watch Uganda, a native nongovernmental organization working in Bunyoro sub-region, the construction will kick off early next year after it was launched this year.

“The water project is expected to be completed within a year, it’s funded by government of Uganda and African Development Bank,” Dr. Kisembo reveals to this contemporary news website on Thursday afternoon.

He added that, “this is under Water Supply and Sanitation Program Phase II (WSSP II).”

Mr. Kisembo – who has shown early interest in Buyaga East Consistency seat as an MP come 2021 polls, says Kagadi town council and Kyenzige town board are beneficiaries, promising to knock more doors of organizations and ministries for support.

In his letter dated 5, November, 2018 to National Water and Sewerage Corporation and copied to Ministry of Water and Environment, Mr. Kisembo reveals how locals in Kagadi district are fetching unclean water for domestic use. This he says has put their lives in real health dangers.

“Kagadi district is one of the districts in Bunyoro region with problem of clean water coverage. Most of the locals are fetching water from swamps and unclean water wells. This has put the lives of community at stake and nobody is immune to deadly disease outbreak,” part of his letter read.

“By this letter, I kindly request your office to consider extending piped water supply to the following sub-counties and town boards; Kagadi town council, Kyenzige, Mabaale, Kabamba, Kyanaisoke, Paacwa and Kiryanga town board,” the letter further reads.

The water project some locals are terming “overdue project” will see the construction of a Pump house, two office blocks [administration with water borne toilets] and four public water borne toilets to promote sanitation, this news website has learnt.

Mugisha Aggrey says the water project is a good development and he personally has been yearning for it. “Our current politicians have always told us but no action – I thank Dr. Kisembo for pushing and following up with government,” he said.

This year, president Museveni hosted Bunyoro leaders at Sate House in Entebbe and promised them service delivery.

On top of that, the head of state assured his visitors that NRM government will strengthen the households of the locals in the region.
