The Pakistani Association in Lira (PAL) comprised of businessmen and women have organized a festive marathon aimed at helping the poor.
The marathon to be held on Christmas day is expected to raise money for supporting the needy children, the disabled and creating unity across Lango sub-region.
To make it a success, PAL says it will team up with interested communities and other stakeholders to ensure livelihood of the disadvantaged are improved through the proceeds.
PAL media coordinator, Agha Asla, says the money to be raised during the mini-marathon will also be used to fund local football clubs in Lango.
“We are doing this to unite people of Lango and us to be part of the tribe,” Agha told this news website.
“Pakistani Association in Lira believes in helping communities in distress and those who are underprivileged,” Agha added.
According to Agha, the chief guest is expected to be the PAL President Mr. Atiqu Naweish.
The marathon, according to Agha is expected to host over 200 participants. Participants shall be flagged off from Kitgum stage at 8:00am and ending point will be near their offices at Jinja camp at former Club Suize.
PAL has over the years been involved in community activities that promote the welfare of disadvantaged communities such as giving employment to young natives, cleaning town, among others.
The organizers say the overall winner shall walk away with shillings 300,000, second runner up with shillings 200,000 and third runner-up with shillings 100,000.
Registration is ongoing at shillings 5000 only, officials say.
