Museveni’s aide on Lango affairs, Dr Ben Ogwang Ocoo dies

Death has robbed Lango of her son at a time many say his advice and guidance was still needed most.

Ben Ogwang Ocoo – a low profile politician but widely known for his entrepreneurship and his multi-million private health facility – Lira Medical Centre has died.

Ben has been one of president Museveni’s advisers in Lango – significantly he advised the President on politics and ‘general affairs’ in the sub-region.

He has been battling cancer before he was taken to India in July this year for specialized treatment.

Talking to our reporter two months ago, Dr Ben said he was feeling ‘okay’ after being discharged from a hospital in India.

“My son, I have been away for treatment. Cancer is troubling me but I feel a little okay now,” he sounded then.

Since then, his condition slightly improved and would be monitored from time to time, a family member says.

Ben, who died at 71, was a qualified laboratory technologist.

Also, until his death, he was the chairperson Lira School of Nursing and Midwifery – a government aided medical training school at Lira regional referral hospital.

On Sunday, he was airlifted from Lira to Mulago national hospital in Kampala after his health condition had worsened. On Monday evening, he passed on.

At a date to be communicated, he will be laid to rest at his ancestral home in Otwal sub-county, Oyam County North in Oyam district.
