Unai Emery heaped praise on Lucas Torreira for maintaining his discipline after an early booking in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Everton.
Torreira, who completed a £26million move from Sampdoria to Arsenal in the summer, made his first Premier League start versus the Toffees after starring against Vorskla Poltava in the Europa League in midweek.
The combative Uruguayan was shown a yellow card after a foul in the 15th minute and had to avoid risky challenges for the remainder of the match at the Emirates.
Goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang sealed a comfortable victory for the Gunners and Emery was impressed with the performance of his summer signing.
Asked about the midfielder’s display, the Spaniard told Sky Sports: ‘Torreira was on a yellow card and I was thinking how he can control the game in the last few minutes with this card against him? ‘But I think he did very well without the risk of losing another.’
Petr Cech was named man of the match and Emery hailed the goalkeeper’s start to the campaign. ‘We are happy with the goalkeepers,’ Emery said.
‘Petr has big experience, big quality, He started the season very well. ‘Today he showed us he is playing very well.’
