Court grants Arua Municipality MP Wadri freedom to visit his voters

Kassiano Ezati Wadri being sworn in as Arua Municipality MP last month.

Gulu High Court on Thursday granted permission to Arua Municipality MP, Kassiano Ezati Wadri to visit his electorates.

Steven Mubiru – the Gulu High Court resident Judge averred that the legislators is henceforth free to travel to his constituency as and when he wishes, without having to seek the leave of Court.

The same Court, on August 27, banned the Legislator from going to Arua [Municipality] for three months. The State told Court that allowing the MP to go to his constituency would interfere with Police investigations into his treason case.

Court was also told that should Wadri be allowed to visit Arua, his presence would lengthen the healing processes in the area after the nasty political engagement ahead of by-election.

Read Court’s decision

Kasiano Wadri, speaking to our reporter yesterday afternoon from Gulu High Court expressed his happiness on the decision of the Court for allowing him to visit his electorates again.

“I’m happy that finally I can see my people – those who voted for me while in detention – those who suffered for me in hard times,” the MP said.

Mr Wadri is among other MPs who were arrested alongside dozens of civilians on 13 August after President Museveni’s motorcade was pelted with stones in Arua.

The suspects, all set free under Court bail until October 1 when they will reappear before Gulu Court, are facing treason charges.
