Gulu Town Clerk given ultimatum to remit shs.150m revenue to divisions

Gulu – The four division chairpersons in Gulu Municipality have issued an ultimatum of seven [7] days only to their Mayor, His Worship Gorge Labeja and the Municipal Town Clerk Barabanawe Francis to transfer back the 30% of the revenue realized from their divisions.

This they say has accumulated for over seven months to the tune of shs.150, 000,000 millions.

Yesterday while addressing journalists from Northern Uganda Media Club [NUMEC], Laroo Division LCIII chairperson, Patrick Oola Lumuba, the Layibi division’s Oluba Alfred and Pece Division boss, Kelly Komakech, gave the unanimous ultimatum.

The division bosses also threatened to dump garbage in front of Mayor and Town Clerk’s offices if the money is not remitted within seven working days.

Mr Komakaech said: “Delays to remit the revenue has greatly affected service delivery to the people in my division. Most of the vehicles that the division uses have totally broken down hindering garbage collection, repairing damaged roads within the division among others.”

Oluba Alfred of Layibi division too, expressed his grievance on the delay, saying that his councilors are demanding for pay [allowances] which he says has accumulated from three different sittings.

Francis Barabanawe, the Gulu Municipal Town Clark while responding to these accusations said that delays are not from his office.

“Not from me. It’s from the Ministry of Local Government and Ministry of Finance which has both delayed to enter the division names into the new system in the consolidated account,” Barabanawe said.

He called for patience from the division chairpersons as the problems is being worked upon and shortly the 30% revenue demand will be addressed.
