Lira NRM boss robbed in daylight of shs.50m

Lira prominent tycoon turned politician Geoffrey Etwop is counting loses after unknown goons made away with shs.50m from his car.

The alleged theft happened on Wednesday afternoon at his Rhino Oil Petrol station located on Obote Avenue [Lira Main Street].

According to Etwop, he had the money in a brown envelope inside his Silver Prado car with a personalized number plate – Amulam.

He narrates that when he stepped a few distance to talk to one of the Chinese workers along the same street being constructed, on return to his posh car, he later realized that the huge cash was missing.

“This morning (Wednesday) I went to DFCU bank and I withdrew the shillings 50m which I intended to cash to a one Garang whom I had sub contracted recently and owed him the money” Etwop told TND News Uganda.

Etwop, who is also the National Resistance Movement [NRM] party treasurer for Lira district says there were at least two men seated on a plastic chair at his petrol station and one of them has been identified as James Obua.

He suspects the two could have taken advantage of his conversation with the Chinese to rob him of his hard-earned money

The two are being held at Lira Central Police station on charges of theft under CRB  number 443/12/92/2018 as police launches investigations.

But Michael Orech, the North Kyoga Regional Community Liaison officer has warned business community against carrying huge amount of money as if they are in the olden days.

Orech added that they [business tycoons] can exploit avenues like direct bank transfers for safety.
