Gulu-Kampala highway accident killed seven people

NORTH – Seven people on Wednesday evening died in a fatal road accident along Gulu-Kampala highway.

The accident occurred when a PSV vehicle, Noah with registration number UBD 227C lost control and rammed into two motorcycles  registration numbers UEF 224A and UDK 315S.

Each motorbike had two passengers on-board. The incident happened at Tochi Bridge, police says.

The deceased are Lanyero Christine who died together with her baby twins, Agenorwot Pretty, Nakatude Jane and others whose names could not be verified by press time.

Their bodies were taken to Gulu regional referral hospital mortuary.

Survivors have been identified as Ociti Anthony, Akwero Gloria and Alio Agnes all admitted at Gulu regional referral hospital and Lacor hospital with severe injuries.

Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa region police spokesman says police has commenced investigation to ascertain the cause of the Wednesday accident.

Okema, however told Journalists on Thursday morning that the two motorists crossed the main road simultaneously leading to the fatal accident.

The car was from Gulu town and heading to Lira town, one of the survivors, Ociti Anthony says.

“The driver of the vehicle escaped. He’s still at large and we are hunting for him,” Okema added.
