Gulu security guard steals shs.83m, arrested



Police in Gulu has arrested a private security guard attached to Child Voice Office also in Gulu town for allegedly stealing organisation funds.

Opiyo Denis, 25, according to police broke into the organisation’s office on Sunday at around 1am and stole the cash.

He was arrested from his in-law’s home in Atede village, Puranga parish in Pader district.

Arrested with him was his father in law Okot Alex, his mother in-law Aparo Kevin, his sister in-law Aol Kevin and his brother in-law Kilama Patrick.

Police says they are to help them with fine investigations.

Jimmy Patrick Okema the Aswa region police spokesperson said Opiyo has been hiding since the incident happened on the 21/8/2018.

“Out of shs.83 million he stole, police has recovered shs.79, 009,900. Opiyo will be charged with house breaking and theft. The case has been registered at Gulu Central police station under CRB 18/43/2018,” Patrick Okema added.

Opio, however, giving his account to Police says it took him quite a lot of time to plan for the crime.

He added that he was already planning to travel to Kampala to buy goods using the balance he had remained with.
