The Arua Municipality MP By-election campaigns are becoming tense with Ugandan top politicians in President Museveni, Kizza Besigye and Robert Kyagulanyi [MP] widely known as Bobi Wine, Mugisha Muntu all campaigning for their different political contenders.
But, from the looks of thing, it’s Bobi Wine and ‘his crowds’ who will by the end of Wednesday be winners. This is, according to ferried campaign formulas.
Like he did it with and for Asuman Buslirwa in Bugiri Municipality MP election, the Ghetto President and Kyandondo East Lawmaker, Bobi Wine, is in Arua using the exact strategies of Bugiri in Arua.
The Bugiri strategies, saw locals [voters] putting trust in JEEMA’s candidate against FDC’s and NRM’s.
There, it also sends somewhat signals to ruling party and anti-JEEMA crowd that ‘People’s power is heavy’.
In Bugiri, Bobi Wine, Odonga Otto, Asuman Buslirwa [now Bugiri Municipality MP], and other politicians from ‘FDC party’ campaigned vigorously for the latter and he won massively.
Last week, National Resistance Movement [NRM] Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba while campaigning for NRM flag bearer, Tiperu Nusura, told the people of Arua Municipality that voting opposition would halt chances of giving Arua a City status.
All these campaign words from ruling party, NRM, are expected to be undone [already loosened] by joint opposition forces, which include Gen. Mugisha Muntu, former FDC party president, Winnie Kizza, former Leader of Opposition in Parliament, Odongo Otto, Bobi Wine, among other opposition politicians.
While the above FDC party men and a woman are now not working with those in Dr. Kizza Besigye and party president Patrick Amuriat Oboi’s camp, Besigye and his group, among them new LoP, Betty Aol Ocan, Nathan Nandala Mafabi, Amuriat Oboi are also in Arua, trying to counter and undo any negative words from Bobi Wine, Mugisha Muntu, and others, and also from the ruling NRM and Museveni against their FDC candidate and party flag bearer, Bruce Musema.
It’s also important to note that Bobi Wine and other opposition members told voters, right from Bugiri the ‘open lies’ by NRM and Kizza Besigye, something voters are starting to believe in.
A political expert from opposition camp who spoke to this news website Monday from Arua on condition of anonymity says Independent aspirant Kassiano Wadri, rebel FDC member [as he calls him] will be the MP elect.
“Lately, Bobi Wine has taken the show from Dr. Kizza Besigye. He [Bobi] destroyed Besigye in Bugiri, now he’s doing more harm in Arua Municipality. Interestingly, both FDC for Amuriat and NRM will cry unless something happens,” he stated. According to him, FDC is for Besigye camp.
Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine while in Arua, campaigning for former Terego County MP, Kassiano Wadri says he was in there after thinking so hard for many days.
“We are faced with a situation which we must resolve. A question that we must answer. It took me long to decide on which side to belong because we have more than one comrade in this race,” Bobi Wine told Arua Municipality voters.
Below, his full speech
Brothers and sisters,
I come here today after thinking so hard for so many days. I was supposed to be here much earlier in the campaigns but I am here only a few hours to the election. It is not that I was not thinking about the Arua Municipality election, it is because the election in Arua is a unique one.
We are faced with a situation that we must resolve. A question that we must answer. It took me long to decide on which side to belong because we have more than one comrade in this race.
In the recent weeks, you have been reading in the news about the divisions in the forces of change. This is something that reduces the hopes of Ugandans who are eager to be liberated. Those divisions, ladies and gentlemen are very clear in this election. It took me a lot of thought before I decided to come to Arua because in this race, we have five comrades in the struggle running against one oppressor.
When we were faced with such a situation in Jinja East we agreed and fronted one candidate. That is how we managed to liberate Jinja from NRM and President Museveni. We were faced with the same situation in Bugiri. When we failed to agree on a single candidate, many of us managed to unite and support the better candidate and still liberated Bugiri from NRM. We agreed with our colleagues to compete with civility.
This time in Arua, we do not have just two candidates. We have five. And out of the five, we must choose one.
We have comrade Bruce Musema of FDC, my good friend Robert Ejiku, my brother and fellow artiste JM Kennedy, comrade Jaffa of JEEMA, and we also have Comrade Kassiano Wadri.
These past weeks, we tried to bring them together but for so many reasons, it was not possible so we decided to come to the ground and sort it out from here.
So why do i come to Arua?
I have come to Arua because there is a big question in Arua and it must be answered here in Arua. Here and now.
I come to Arua because we have a mission as the people of Uganda and if we must complete that mission, the people of Arua must play a very important part and they must play it now.
I come to Arua because there is a war in Arua and indeed in all parts of Uganda. A war between oppressor and the oppressed. That war has been won it in Kyadondo, we won it in Jinja, we won it in Rukungiri, we won it in Bugiri and we must win it in Arua.
We risk losing this war not because we don’t have enough fighters, but because may be we have too many fighters that we must decide which fighter to send on the front-line.
We have to make this tough decision because all of these candidates are our people but we must choose only one and we have only a few hours. And if we don’t do that, NRM will take your voice away and continue to misrepresent you.
After long thought, I came to the conclusion that for the good of not only Arua Municipality, not only West Nile, but for the whole of Uganda, we should unite and support Kassiano Wadri.
I know Musema is good. I know my brother Ejiku is good. I know JM Kennedy is good. But I know that Kassiano Wadri is better.
This is not just about Arua, this is not just about Kasiano Wadri, and this is about Uganda-United. This is when Arua must speak for all of us. This is where Arua must unite.
We saw you on TV uniting when our brother was killed even after trusting them so much. You can do that again through your vote. Let us show them that Arua cannot be taken for granted forever.
It is not a secret any more that we are planning to remove Museveni and we have only two years before 2021. We have always said it in word and shown it in action that we are uniting from across political parties, across tribes and across religions. This election teaches us that we must also unite across generations.
I have said it before that any party that tells you that it can single handedly liberate Uganda is a joker. For us to defeat President Museveni, it will take more than one political party, more than one tribe, more than one religion and yes, more than one generation.
As we take on leadership as young people, we must also tap into the wisdom and guidance of the elders especially elders that Museveni fears most like Kassiano Wadri.
Let us be guided by what we stand for as a nation well knowing that while we have patriotic elders like Wadri, we also have many elders that continue to sell our people to the regime. While we have patriotic young leaders like all you gathered here today, we also have young people that are being used by the regime to make sure that your eyes remain closed.
So as we go into the election on Wednesday, I call upon all of you brothers and sisters, men and women, young and old, to come out and vote for Kassiano Wadri.
It does not matter your political party, your tribe or religion. It does not even matter your age.
This is not a clash of parties or a clash of generations. It is a unification of the oppressed people against the oppressor. We are coming together to say enough is enough. We are coming together to say #PeoplePower_OurPower.
On Wednesday, 15 August, the people of Arua Municipality will go to the polls to re-elect their MP after the sudden death of Ibrahim Abiriga who was gunned down three months ago.
