The political environment in Arua Municipality this evening is dreadful as security forces are reported to be in charge.
This follows tense campaign programs between NRM, FDC, JEEMA, DP parties and independent candidates on Monday.
Both President Museveni, Kizza Besigye, Bobi Wine, Mugisha Muntu, Alice Alaso, Zaake Francis, among others were canvassing support for their candidates ahead of Wednesday, 15 August, by-election.
However, the situation got more horrible from afternoon through evening when heavily deployment of joint security forces started taking up positions in town.
These, in locals’ hopes were usual deployment with aim of averting possible chaos.
As it was getting late, sources who spoke to this news website say all hotels in which some opposition politicians had checked-in were all surrounded by security forces.
From Hotel Pacific where MPs Zaake Francis, Gerald Karhunga, Robert Kyagulanyi and others have checked-in, reports say Bobi Wine’s driver, Yasin Kawooya was shot dead, sources say.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with TND News Uganda from her hotel room in Arua, where she’s hiding, Alice Alaso, former Serere district Woman MP says her hotel and that of Bobi Wine were all bounded.
“Zaake Francis has been beaten seriously and he’s very bad. We are also being looked for,” Alice Alaso said.
Adding: “We are visitors here, no one to talk to – our hotels surrounded. We are ready to answer them [security team] tomorrow but not now.”
Earlier, there was a report that Bobi Wine’s driver was killed for defying traffic order.
This claim, however, was vehemently quashed by Alaso who said, “Defying traffic order in the hotel parking?”

Some of the hotels booked by opposition politicians include Royal and Con hotel Pacific in Arua Municipality.
Attempts to get comments from UPDF/Defence and Uganda Police spokespersons by press time were futile.
