Born on 28, February, 1936 to Eranayo Oryem and Kolobina Nam, Bishop Joseph Oyanga [Emeritus] breathed his last air last weekend. He was 82.
His death was soon announced by the Uganda Episcopal Conference, with promise to announce more details later.

He got baptized on the 24, March, 1936 at Alanyi Catholic parish and confirmed on 9, March, 1947 at Alanyi Parish
Oyanga was ordained to priesthood on the 19, May, 1963 also at Alanyi Catholic Parish by Bishop Dr. Kihangire, the then Auxiliary Bishop of Gulu.
On the 1, October, 1989, he was ordained to the Episcopate at a Holy function held at Akii bua stadium in Lira town and was officiated by Cardinal Emmanuel Wamala, Arch Bishop of Kampala Diocese
He went to Dokolo primary school from 1943-1946 and Alanyi primary school from 1947-1948 and later Nyenga seminary where he attained primary leaving certificate.
In 1953, he started his secondary education at Nyenga seminary from where he attained Cambridge junior secondary leaving certificate.

Major seminary education
He went to Gaba Major Seminary, studying Philosophy from 1957-1958.
In 1959-1963, he studied Theology from the same institution, Gaba Major Seminary.
From 1966-1968, he studied BA in English/History from Nairobi University in Nairobi, Kenya.
He also went to Maryknoll school of Theology from 1982-1984 where he attained M.A in Theology.
Studied Post Graduate Diploma in Education at Makerere University, Kampala from 1988-1989.
He was appointed as Curate of Kyera parish in 1964.
A year later, he was transferred to Kinper Parish in the same religious position.
In 1965-1966, he served as the Bududa Parish Curate before serving as a teacher, vice rector and later Rector at Nagongera Seminary.
He served as full Rector of Nagongera Parish for one year; 1984-1985.
Oyanga was taken to serve as the Malanda Parish Priest in 1985.
He was a teacher at Mbale College in 1986 before getting a promotion to head teachers’ position a year after in 1987.
He was soon transferred to Tororo College in 1988 as a teacher.
Finally, on the 1, October, 1989 to 2, December, 2003, he served as Lira Diocese Bishop.
Tentative burial update
Tomorrow Tuesday, 24, July, there will be a requiem mass at Uganda Martyrs Cathedral parish at Nyagole in Tororo Archdiocese.
In the afternoon, his body leaves for Alanyi parish in Lira Diocese.
On Wednesday, July, the body leaves Alanyo for Uganda Martyrs Cathedral Parish, Lira Diocese for requiem mass and public viewing of the body.
The burial is scheduled for Thursday July, 26 in Lira Diocese.
